The Los Altos/Los Altos Hills Senior Committee submitted the following update on its activities.
It’s been more than three months since the Senior Committee mailed the Senior Community Questionnaire to 4,479 residents of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills who are 55 and older.
The purpose of the project is to identify the present and future needs of seniors.
The committee publicized the questionnaire to encourage responses. Those who did not receive questionnaires and wished to participate were directed to contact the Senior Center, which an additional 51 residents did, so the committee sent a total of 4,539 questionnaires.
The results exceeded expectations – 1,048 questionnaires were completed for a 23 percent return. Residents 61- to 85-years-old contributed 84 percent of the responses.
A computer program will assist analysis of the data. Once completed, the committee will present a report and make recommendations to the city councils.
Preliminary results show that transportation is seniors’ No. 1 issue.
The committee thanks those seniors who responded, and encourages them to continue their interest in helping the communities become senior-friendly.
The Los Altos/Los Altos Hills Senior Committee will schedule an open house in the spring to address the questionnaire.
