Zuckerberg donates $500 million to SVCF
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently donated company stock valued at nearly $500 million to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
The Mountain View-based philanthropic foundation has yet to announce the specifics of Zuckerberg’s plans for the contribution.
Zuckerberg said in a Dec. 18 Facebook post that he and his wife, Priscilla Chan, will look for “areas in education and health to focus on next.”
“Mark’s generous gift will change lives and inspire others in Silicon Valley and around the globe to give back and make the world a better place,” said Emmett D. Carson, CEO of the foundation. “We are pleased and honored that he has chosen to continue to partner with us to help him achieve his philanthropic goals.”

MV offers teens driver education class
The city of Mountain View Recreation Division has scheduled Drivers Education classes for 15- to 18-year-olds Feb. 19-22 at the Mountain View Community Center, 201 Rengstorff Ave.
Cost is $129 for residents, $161 for nonresidents.

‘Teens Unplugged’ slated Friday
Local teens have an opportunity to showcase their musical talents during a “Teens Unplugged” event 7-9:30 p.m. Friday at Red Rock Coffee, 201 Castro St., Mountain View.

El Camino Real housing set for city review
Members of the Mountain View Environmental Planning Commission are scheduled to review a housing proposal for two currently fenced-in sites on the north side of El Camino Real between El Monte Avenue and Shoreline Boulevard 7 p.m. today at Mountain View City Hall, 500 Castro St.
Prometheus Development has proposed an apartment project on the two sites, according to city planner Randy Tsuda. Developers plan to build in two phases.
The first would span the Tropicana Lodge and Western Appliance properties and include approximately 165 units. The second would encompass the property of the former Austin’s restaurant and the small building immediately adjacent to it.
Tsuda said a third fenced site is located at the corner of El Camino Real and Rich Avenue. The property owner demolished several nonconforming buildings on the site but has yet to submit a development application.
