Los Altos Troop 30 scouts reach top with Eagle rank

Troop 33 of Los Altos is scheduled to honor three new Eagle Scouts at a Court of Honor ceremony June 8 and a fourth in the fall.

After a long fight with Alzheimer’s disease Richard Eckert passed away on May 25, 2014. He and his surviving wife of 56 years, Jean, were both born in Huntington, N.Y. and attended Huntington H.S., where they met. Dick attended Farmingdale State College (NY) before enlisting in the U.S. Naval Reserve Aviation Cadet Program, earning his wings on May 2, 1957.

Gerdice passed away quietly in her home on May 18, 2014, she was 96. Gerdice was born on March 31, 1918 to George and Bertha Skogen in Oakland, CA and grew up in Los Altos Hills on “the ranch” now home to the Fremont Hills Country Club with her siblings, Dorothy and Jergen.

Longtime Los Altos resident Billy Ray "Bill" Hart died surrounded by his family on Friday, May 9, 2014.

Born on March 24, 1930 in Compton, California, Bill grew up in Southern California and Kansas before attending the University of Oregon. He entered the Air Force in 1950, becoming a fighter jet pilot earning the rank of second lieutenant assigned to the Air Defense Command 56th Fighter Intercept Squadron stationed at Selfridge Air Force base in Michigan.

Barbara Brauer Tierney passed away peacefully at her home with family and Hospice by her side at the age of 89. She was born in Chicago and received a Bachelors Degree in Winter Park Florida, from Rollins College. She married her best friend Robert E Tierney in 1949 in Chicago and moved to Los Altos Hills in 1954 to raise her family.
