Benson McGann, M.D.: ECH founder, dedicated physician, family man

Dr. Benson Richard McGann was married to his wife, Nancy, for 62 years.

Benson Richard McGann, M.D., co-founder of El Camino Hospital and a physician recognized for his dedication to patients and family, died Aug. 11 with family members at his side. Dr. McGann was 91.

According to family members, Dr. McGann was known for his appreciation of hard work and love of the outdoors and the simple pleasures in life.

LAH resident honored for supporting wounded Israeli soldiers

Members of Friends of the Israel Defense Forces’ San Francisco Bay Area Region honored outgoing board chairwoman and Los Altos Hills resident Ricki Alon at an event in Palo Alto Aug. 9.

The organization appointed Alon its first regional chairwoman four years ago. During her time with Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, she turned it into one of the leading pro-Israel organizations in the Bay Area.

Engagement: Whitney Heil and John Abramo


Whitney Heil

Whitney Heil and John Abramo have announced their engagement to be married June 25 in Santa Ynez. A reception for the couple is scheduled at Sunstone Winery.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of John and Nancy Heil of Santa Barbara. She graduated from Flint- ridge Preparatory School in La Cañada and earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master’s in education from USC.

Bruce Charles Meyer, 81, died Wednesday, August 5th at his home in Carmel, California. He leaves his wife Valda Cotsworth and her daughter Katie Roos; his sons, Bruce and Joseph Meyer from his first marriage and his brother Gordon Meyer; four grandchildren, and many close friends.

MURRAY HAROLD KUPERMAN

Murray Harold Kuperman of Los Altos lost his battle with cancer on Aug. 20, 2015. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Mary Truitt Kuperman and his son, Scott. Murray was born in Brooklyn on Oct. 29, 1937, the only son of Joseph Kuperman and Nettie Gewurtz Kuperman. He moved to Ontario, California where he completed high school and then went on to UCLA and California Berkeley graduating with a degree in metallurgical engineering.

Upon graduation he entered the Navy as an Ensign thanks to NROTC. His assignment was an engineering officer on the USS Embattle, a minesweeper. Murray and Mary, who had met at Berkeley, were married in April 1961.

John Hamilton Rudolph, former President/CEO of Rudolph & Sletten, Inc. in Redwood City, California passed away August 7th, 2015, in his Morgan Hill home he shared with his wife, Catherine Cruz Rudolph. John, 64, had battled cancer for over two years before he entered hospice care.

Ruth Madden Gudauskas, age 103, was born on September 8, 1911, in Georgetown, IL, and peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on August 8, 2015, in Bethany House in Auburn, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom Gudauskas, and brothers, Glenn and Ray Madden. She is survived by her son Robert (Dot) Gudauskas of Auburn, AL, daughter Dolores (David) Boyd of Los Altos, CA; grandchildren Debbie Milanes of Opelika, AL, Tom (Carol) Gudauskas of Auburn, AL, and Lisa (Lowell) Kissinger of Douglasville, GA; and great- grandchildren, Matt, Greg, and Jilli Milanes, Benjamin and David Kissinger, and Lydia, Hannah, and Sarah Gudauskas.

Richard Johansen, our dearly beloved father, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2015 in Los Altos. He was 88 years old.  He died as he most liked to live, surrounded by the love of his family.

Richard is survived by and will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 69 years Madeline Nunes Johansen, his daughter Kaaren Johansen of Morgan Hill and his son Bryan Johansen of Los Altos.
