Roland “Rollie” Meyerott was born on November 20, 1916 in Baldwin, Illinois, the 2nd of 7 children, to parents’ John and Teresa Meyerott. His family moved to the small farm town of Coleridge, Nebraska in 1917 where he later worked in the family’s chicken hatchery and the Meyerott Garage, the first Chevrolet dealership outside Lincoln where they sold and serviced cars.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years Lissi - and 3 children, one deceased, & one stepson. 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Keith was a WWII fighter pilot - a true member of the greatest generation.

Robert [Bob] Palmer Kahn age 69, died peacefully at home on Friday, October 17, 2014. He died from complications after a long battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma.

Born January 31, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia, Bob spent his adult life in various parts of the San Francisco Bay area.  He practiced law until his retirement in 2002 and then turned his full-time attention to his passion, photography, and to spending quality time with his family and many friends.

David S. Nivison, 91 years old, and a resident of Los Altos, California since 1952, died Oct. 16, 2014 at home.  His neighbors had recently honored him as the “Mayor of Russell Ave., in recognition of 62 years of distinguished living” on that street.

He was born January 17, 1923 in Farmingdale, Maine.  In 1944 he married Cornelia (Green), who died in 2008.  He was the loving father of Louise McCoy (husband Lee) of Pettigrew, AR; Helen T. Nivison, of Ithaca, NY; David G. Nivison of Soquel, CA; and James N. Nivison (wife Lolly) of Los Altos, CA.  There are six granddaughters:  Joanna, Marina, Audrey, Camilla, Chelsea, and Maya.  He had one great grandson, Noah.

Roger Wellington Sands, 85, died on October 7th, 2014 in Santa Barbara, CA. He will be remembered as a kind, fun and generous man that deeply loved his wife and family. 

Roger was born in Boston Massachusetts the son of Donald Phipps Sands and Lucile Nash Sands ion June 5th, 1929. He graduated from Bordentown Military Institute (’47) and Babson College (‘51) with a degree in Business. Roger and Marcia married in the summer of ’49. Soon after graduating from Babson, he responded to the call ‘Go West Young Man’. His first career stop was Cleveland, Ohio and the birthplace of his son Donald Phipps Sands the III.

Heeger, Michael D., “Mickey,” 92, of Los Altos, CA, passed away on October 12, 2014, in Los Altos. Mickey was born in St. Paul, MN to the late Otto and Edith Scott Heeger. He was an accomplished child actor and dancer, who appeared in movies alongside Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. He majored in business at the University of Southern California, where he was a member of the Skull and Dagger, president of the sophomore and junior classes and the College of Commerce, wrote for the Daily Trojan and was president of his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Joanne Dyall, 90, of Los Altos, passed away October 18, 2014 in Mountain View, California.

Joanne was born in Champaign, Illinois to Harry A. and Ethyl Hills on April 1, 1924. She attended University of Illinois Laboratory High School and graduated in 1941. She went on to graduate with highest honors from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (her name is engraved in bronze at the university library as part of this honor).  She was an elementary school teacher for many years at Montague Elementary School in Santa Clara.

JEAN MARIE CUFF

Jean Marie Cuff, a longtime resident of Los Altos Hills, CA passed away peacefully in August 2014. Born in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts, she worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where she met her husband of 50 years, Kermit Cuff. In 1957 they moved to California and settled in Los Altos Hills. Jean was a full time mother and raised four children, and later did a lot of volunteer work, most recently at Stanford Hospital.

Jean was a proud and supportive mother of her children, Kermit Cuff, Jim Cuff, Carolyn Kendrick, and Cindy Heintzelman. She is survived by her brothers Bill Lamie of Massachusetts, and Jack Lamie of Utah, and by her daughter in law, Lindsey Cuff and sons in law Steve Kendrick and Keith Heintzelman. Jean’s highlight was spending time with granddaughters Kensey and Brooke Kendrick. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit.

At Rest on Thurs. Oct. 16, 2014 in Sunnyvale. Born Jan. 5, 1921 in Vancouver, WA. Margaret was a graduate of Palo Alto High School. She married Brad Stephens in 1942 and resided in Los Altos for the last 58 yrs. Margaret worked in the family business for 40 yrs. She was involved in American Legion Auxiliary, Boys State and Girls State of Palo Alto. Brad and Margaret enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Lake Tahoe area. Survived by husband Brad; Daughters Barbara (Richard) Collins and Carol Bradley; Her sister Frances Dupret, grandchildren: Patricia, Michael, Steve, Scott, and Shannon, 9 great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.

She was a housewife who took great pride in her home, her surroundings and was gracious to everyone who entered her life. Barbara loved her garden, all animals, dining out and long held close friends. She trusted that Time is finite. Eternity is infinite.

Our beloved Gladys Jackson Gunn, at rest in Los Altos, will forever be remembered by her adoring family. Gladys greeted this world, on the 16th of October 1921; on the 20th of July 2014, surrounded by her family, she was greeted into the gates of heaven.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, and high school sweetheart, Benjamin Robert Gunn. They shared 68 years together making beautiful memories to be cherished by their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Virginia R Roberts was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on March 8th, 1925 to parents William Clarence Colwell and Mary Virginia Colwell. She was educated in Chattanooga and later attended San Mateo Junior College after moving to California. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert L Roberts, daughter Sharon Virginia Buzzini, and son Robert L Roberts. She is survived by; brother Dr Gene Thomas Colwell (Peggy) of Duluth, GA; sister-in-law Betty Lou Colwell of Oakridge, TN; daughter Donna Colby (Michael) of Turlock; son-in-law George Buzzini of Ripon; and daughter-in-law Carol Roberts of Milpitas. She is also survived by her grandson’s; Brian Buzzini (Jonelle) of Riverbank; Tim Buzzini of Modesto; Kenneth Colby (Holley) of Oakland; Ryan Colby (Molly) of Pine Grove; Jesse Colby (Chelsea) of Sutter Creek; and Robert T Roberts (Karin) of Santa Clara. As well as her great-grandchildren, Grace and Sophie Buzzini; Kate and Jack Buzzini; Shayla and Rylee Colby; Tyler, Grace and Madelyn Colby; and twins Addison and Etta Roberts expected in February.

Ida Lyons, long-time Los Altos resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25th. She is survived by her three sons, Ladd, Greg and Rich, her five grand-children, and her younger sister, Maria Primavera.

Ida is remembered by friends and family alike for her remarkably positive attitude to life. She was always game for an adventure ("Let's go for it"), always saw the bright side ("Life is good"), and always took time to appreciate a sunset or quite moment in her Japanese garden.

Jack Wylie, aged 89, passed away on the 3rd of October, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Malou, his wife of 52 years, and the loving father of daughter, Susan. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1924, he was a proud WWII veteran and was decorated for valor, receiving the Bronze Star.

Jack attended Fenn College in Cleveland on the GI bill, where he received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

Suzanne Monica Dimm Specht passed Tuesday, Sept. 9th at the age of 84. Sue was born on April 21, 1930 in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from the University of Oregon in with a degree in Music, Sue taught in a little town called Clatskanie, Oregon. There she taught music to grades K-8 and lived in a boarding house. She would joke about her boarding house reach. After several years of teaching in Oregon, she moved to Menlo Park, CA where she taught second grade at Hillview Elementary School. She joined a young adult group where she met her future husband Donald Specht. Their first date was a community ski trip which led to a 54 year marriage!

Donna Halliday, 85, a longtime resident of Los Altos, passed away Friday evening, September 26, 2014, in Kirksville, Missouri, while visiting her son.

She was born on January 25, 1929, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Schuyler Everett and Maude Bedigrew Clark.

Donna grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Southeast High School, in the Class of 1946. She later attained her nursing degree from the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, Kansas and subsequently taught nursing to the younger students. While at K.U. she met her future husband, Gordon Halliday, who at the time was a second year medical student.

Our beautiful Jacqueline (Jackie) Koch passed away on September 8, 2014 at the age of 81 due to complications from Alzheimer’s.

Jackie was born in Reims, France and came to the United States not knowing any English. She worked hard to acclimate to her new surroundings and became a hair stylist in Washington, D.C. She later relocated to California where she met her “sweetheart” and love of her life, James (Jim) Koch, who predeceased her in October of 2012.

Virginia (Ginny) Grigsby of Los Altos died September 4, 2014, at home, peacefully, with her family surrounding her.  She was 85 years old.

She was born on March 27, 1929, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, to Frank and Ruth Eck. She graduated from Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont. She met her husband-to-be, John, at a church picnic in 1949, and they were married in Pittsfield on July 15, 1950.

Patricia Jennings: Former Los Altos resident restored historic Paul Shoup House


Patricia Bock Jennings, known in Los Altos for her exacting efforts in restoring the historic Paul Shoup House, died unexpectedly Sept. 16 at her home in San Jose. Mrs. Jennings was 46.OBIT trisha
    Mrs. Jennings, an attorney, spearheaded the restoration project during the time her family lived in the landmark house at 500 University Ave. She retrofitted everything in the 1910-era home – from door handles to light fixtures – to reflect historical authenticity. Her efforts led to the home’s inclusion in 2011 on the National Register of Historic Places, the first such designation in Los Altos. Mrs. Jennings, who saw the project through with enthusiasm and determination, held a 100th anniversary birthday party for the house in 2010, inviting the public and the Shoup family heirs.
    Friends and family report that such passion and generosity was typical of Mrs. Jennings, born Patricia Yolanda Bock in Hoboken, N.J., in 1968. She was the older child of Charles and Irma Bock, who moved to Fairfield in 1981.
    Friends and family described Mrs. Jennings as “super smart” and “generous.” She earned degrees from UC Davis and McGeorge School of Law, the latter marked by years of service to Phi Mu.
