James C. Wall passed away unexpectedly of a sudden heart attack on April 11, 2016. He was born in Los Angeles to Charles and Myrtle Wall. Very soon after his birth, they moved to eastern San Diego. He graduated from Granite Hills High School, having been class President and scoring the school’s first touchdown for the football team. He received his English Degree from Stanford University and his Masters in English from SDSU.

Doug passed away peacefully on April 4, 2016, surrounded by family. He was 86 years old. 

Born in Vancouver, Canada, to Chesley and Florence Anderson, he was the first in his family to attend college, graduating from the University of British Columbia with a degree in social work. He enjoyed his college experience during which he created lifelong friends.

Bette passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 93 on April 4, 2016. She was married for 60 years to her late husband, Don Bolander (deceased 2003). Bette was born in Oakland, CA on June 8, 1922 to Grant and Hilda (Puranen) Ernest. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara (Ernest) (Whistler) Barnes. Beloved by many she leaves her daughter, Susan Ross of Saratoga, sons Robert (Kim) Bolander of Port Angeles, WA and Richard Bolander of Cupertino. She was the grandmother of Lisa (David) Cooper, Colleen (Will) Cadiz, Melody Ross, Katie (Tim) Stanke and Julie Bolander. She was the great-grandmother of Darren, Jaxon and Jared Cooper and Arianna Cadiz.  Bette lived most of her life in Palo Alto (Palo Alto HS class of 1939), Los Altos (she and Don owned the Foodliner Market in the 40s and 50s) and Cupertino.

Marion was born In Brooklyn, New York on August 9, 1919 to Dr. Hector and Mildred Stevenson. She grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut, attended Colby Jr. College in New Hampshire, and studied fashion design at the Vesper George School of Design in Boston, Massachusetts.

Niels E. Brandstrup, MD, a pediatrician who practiced in Mountain View, California for over 30 years, died peacefully at his home in Los Altos on April 16, 2016 after a long illness. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark on February 23, 1929, he was one of three sons of Ebbe Brandstrup MD and Inger Brandstrup (nee Nathan). He was predeceased by his younger brothers Torkil and Mikael. His father was a prominent obstetrician and professor of midwifery in Copenhagen. During the Nazi occupation in World War II, the family’s Jewish background forced them to flee Denmark under cover of night to Sweden where they lived for several years until after the war in 1945.

Anthony Francis Ashton was born on November 4, 1945 to Veronica and Frank Ashton in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, UK. Along with his three younger brothers Jeremy, Christopher, and Nicholas; he grew up in Berkshire, England and graduated from Clare College at Cambridge University with a MA degree in Natural Sciences and a PhD in Chemical Engineering. He was the Welsh National 3000 Meter Steeplechase Record Holder and traveled to the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 to run the 5000 meters.

She was a native of Colorado Springs, Colorado but called California her home beginning in 1953 with homes in Palo Alto, Los Altos Hills, and Bodega Bay.

Heaven gained a beautiful angel today. Our beloved mother’s blessed life ended in her Los Altos home surrounded by her loving family on April 18, 2016.

Buol Joanne Dougherty was born Sept. 28, 1930 in Chicago. At the age of two, Mom moved with her mother, Buol Burke, to the Hillsborough area. She attended St. Catherine’s Elementary School, Notre Dame High School, was an esteemed graduate of UC Berkeley and a proud member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Mom, always ambitious in her endeavors, attended Hastings Law School but traded in a law degree for her true calling, family life.

Sharon Kruse Aochi, age 63, passed away peacefully on April 18th after a battle with dementia. Sharon was a loving daughter, mother, wife and active member of the church.

Born to Louis and Elaine Kruse in Redwood City, she grew up in Menlo Park, and retired from the City of Mountain View after 27 years.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; daughter, Kristina (Trevor Mathisen); son, Mark; and nephew, Karl (Kruse). She is preceded in death by her mother, father and brother, Randall. A special thank you is extended to those whom provided care for Sharon.

Devoted brother of Henry (Hank) Giachino who predeceased him in 1983. Dearest brother-in-law of Louise Giachino of San Lorenzo, CA. Commander William L. Bryson, (SC) USN (Ret.) died of complications of Parkinson’s in Los Altos, California on March 4, 2016. He was 93 years old.

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Bill received his congressional appointment to the Naval Academy from Missouri and Senator Harry S. Truman. He graduated a year early to deploy out to the Pacific with the USS Burns destroyer and later the USS Davison.

Stephen Owen Acers passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Pancreatic cancer. Steve was born in Denver, Colorado on October 2, 1942 to Owen Francis and Geneva Higley Acers and welcomed by two older sisters. Steve was raised in Golden, Colorado where he attended Golden Elementary School through eighth grade. In 1956 he and his mother moved to Bakersfield, California where he attended Bakersfield High School, graduating in 1960. Steve then joined the Marine Corp Reserves and was stationed in San Diego.

Clarence Maurice Ablow (also known as Larry) passed away February 9th at Mission Viejo in Orange County where he moved several years ago to be near his niece, Carolyn Brothers. He was 96. 

Larry was born in 1919 in New York. After his mother died, his father remarried and moved the family to Beverly Hills, CA.  Larry graduated from UCLA and served his country during WWII as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He served as a meteorologist on board an aircraft carrier in the Pacific.

Arthur Kinnear Erickson died on March 3, 2016 with family by his side at the Palo Alto VA after a short stay due to pneumonia.  He is now with his wife, Ruth. 

Arthur was born in Pilot, WY on June 6, 1919 to Frank and Katie Erickson. He was raised on a sheep ranch near Kinnear, WY and graduated from high school in Riverton, WY. Art graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in civil engineering in 1942. He joined the Navy during World War II and became a pilot. Art retired with a rank of LT JG after the war.
