Born in Seattle to John Campbell and Annie Stevenson Eilers, John died peacefully at the age of 85 in Los Altos Hills, California. In 1944 John, older brother William Lewis and parents settled in San Mateo, where he graduated from high school. While studying at Stanford University he was a midshipman in the U.S. Naval Reserve, where he sailed on USS Iowa and USS Boxer.

JoAnn became a cosmetologist in her early 20's and many of her customers became life-long friends. She had lived in Hollister for the last 25 years.

Dr. Peter Lucy: Psychiatrist, anti-drunk-driving activist

Dr. Peter Lucy, a psychiatrist in private practice in Mountain View, died March 13 after a two-year battle with colon cancer. He was 64. His partner, Stacey Wolfe Adleson, and friend Allen Podell were by his side.

Dr. Lucy, a longtime Los Altos resident, was born March 11, 1950. He was raised on Homer Avenue in Palo Alto in a house built in 1910 by his great-uncle. The home will become the office of Linda Haskell House, named for his late wife, which will provide low-cost psychiatric care and help for battered women.

Samuel Robertson Morley, a former Stanford University football great and All-American who went on to a career as a family law attorney, passed away at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View Jan. 25 from complications of congestive heart failure. He was 81.

Mr. Morley was born in Pasadena to Fred and Grace Morley and grew up in San Marino.

A multi-faceted wordsmith, Charlotte taught high school English in Mountain View for 20 years, wrote columns for the Los Altos Town Crier for 20 years, and was the paper’s drama critic, reviewing productions of TheatreWorks, Palo Alto Players and Busbarn. She worked for Stanford University as a Supervisor of student English teachers, and ran writing classes for seniors at several senior centers.

During her last hours on earth, she was prayed with and for by the Rev. Ron Griffin of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church of Mountain View. She is sorely missed by her son William and his family who enjoyed having her nearby for the last two and a half years of her life.
