In May of 2014, Gordon E. Brandt passed away after a one and one half year battle with Lymphoma. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.

Gordon was born in Los Angeles, CA on July 13, 1930. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1948 where he worked on the school newspaper and joined the California National Guard.  He proudly served as a radio operator in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant.

He attended El Camino Junior College and Stanford University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (1957) and an MBA (1959). In 1958, he married Genice Steffenson, and also joined Hewlett Packard, where he worked as an Engineer in manufacturing, facilities management, and corporate construction, retiring in 1983. He later became an Owner’s Representative consultant, before returning to Facilities Management positions at Hewlett Packard and Coherent, Inc., retiring again in 1996.

He is survived by his wife Genice Brandt; sister Shirley Morris; half-sister Wanda Allen; three children and their spouses: Kristine Escarda (Alan), Karl Brandt (Alicja), and Linda Brandt (Rob Sprague); and eight grandchildren: Jesse Escarda, Lindsey Escarda, Adam Brandt, Anna Brandt, Aleksander Brandt, and Dylan Sprague.

He was preceded in death by his parents Irene Brandt and Martin Brandt.

He enjoyed genealogy, hiking in the San Antonio Regional Park, volunteering at the Los Altos Library, donating 197 units of blood to the Stanford Medical Center, Sons in Retirement events, and traveling throughout the United States, China, Russia and Europe.

A celebration of his life was held on May 31 at 3:00 p.m. at the Los Altos Lutheran Church, 460 S. El Monte Ave.  His ashes will be interned in Norway, Iowa.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pathways Hospice Foundation or the Stanford Fund (specify Need-Based Scholarships).
