Long Time Resident of Los Altos
Gerdice passed away quietly in her home on May 18, 2014, she was 96. Gerdice was born on March 31, 1918 to George and Bertha Skogen in Oakland, CA and grew up in Los Altos Hills on “the ranch” now home to the Fremont Hills Country Club with her siblings, Dorothy and Jergen.
Gerdice spent most of her time at the barn, which is still standing. Her first love was the long rides in the Los Altos Hills on those horses. She owned and raised several quarter horses and taught her children to ride. In later years she also liked going to the race track at Bay Meadows. She also enjoyed her gardens and had the ultimate “green thumb”. We will truly miss her stories, her dynamic spirit and her sense of humor.
Gerdice was also one of the “Rosie the Riveters” at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento and worked on the B-25s for the famous Tokyo raid. After the war, moved back to Los Altos and built their first home raised the family with her husband, Russell who precedes her in death. She leaves behind her four daughters, Judy, Barbara, Evelyn and Dorothy, her ten grandchildren Rusty, Don, Dennis, Kirsten, Scott, Cara, Tara, Ty, Erica and Charles and numerous great grandchildren. She was laid to rest at Alta Mesa in Palo Alto.
