Rose Marian Dahlin Rocklitz passed away peacefully April 19, 2014 at her home in Los Altos, surrounded by her family. She was 95 years old.
Born January 4, 1919 in Clay County, South Dakota, her Swedish ancestors had emigrated from Sweden to Iowa in 1870. Her parents, David Dahlin and Rose Hult Dahlin were tenant farmers that were able to buy a farm near Centerville, South Dakota in the early 1930s.
As a child Marian dreamed of moving to California and understood the value of education. She graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, Sioux City, Iowa in 1940 and moved to Sacramento, California where she worked as a Registered Nurse.
She met Harold Carl Rocklitz at a USO dance in Davis, California. Harold served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Harold and Marian were married in Chico, California June 24, 1944.
After the war, Harold completed his education at the University of Minnesota and their son Alan Harold Rocklitz was born in 1947. In 1950 the family moved to San Francisco and daughter Enid Gail Rocklitz was born there in 1951. Then in 1953 Harold began his employment at Hewlett-Packard, retiring in 1986.
Marian worked as a Registered Nurse at Pilgrim Haven (now the Terraces) and previous to that she volunteered at the American Red Cross Blood Center. She enjoyed using her nursing skills to help out her community.
Harold and Marian were married for 62 years. Harold passed away in 2006. Survived by son and daughter in law Alan and Sandy Rocklitz of San Jose, CA; daughter and son in law Enid and Ken Deibert of Garden Valley, CA; grand daughter Jennifer Zhong of San Jose, CA, sister in law Betty Dahlin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marian enjoyed traveling, gardening, animals of all sorts and visiting with the Cross Country Cousins, who met yearly for several decades. Services have been held. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Humane Society or the American Legion.
