James Bartlett Dean, 82, of La Grange, passed away December 11, 2013. He was the son of the late Ray and Grace Dean of Sacramento, CA. Jim graduated from McClatchy High School in 1950. He served in the United States Navy as a Boatswain’s Mate, then returned to Sacramento where he attended Sacramento City College to study mechanical engineering.
Jim worked for Ray O. Cooke Heating and Air, and Swinerton Builders in Sacramento, then moved to San Leandro where he ran American Refrigeration until his retirement. He was an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers; Sheriff’s Advisory Board of Santa Clara County; Native Sons of the Golden West, Redwood Parlor; San Leandro Kiwanas Club; Palo Alto Elks Lodge; VFW of Coulterville; and Lake Don Pedro Golden Chain Lion’s Club.
Jim is survived by this spouse, Marion Ferri Dean; sister, Norma Jennings; daughter, Beverly Spink; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jennifer; and great-grandchildren, Kailash and Sophie. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob; and son, James, Jr.
