RICHARD “DICK” GREENBERG

OBIT RichardGreenberg

Dick Greenberg passed away at the age of 72 at home surrounded by his family on September 13, 2013 after a 4-week battle with a very aggressive form of cancer. Knowing how strong Dick was throughout his life (i.e., dead-lifting 200 lbs. a week before his diagnosis), it was a relief that he passed so quickly.

Dick was a man known for his sense of humor, booming laugh, hearty smile, integrity, guidance, leadership and jump shot, as well as, being a loving father, grandfather and husband.

He leaves behind a legacy in college textbook publishing and a beautiful marriage that remains a love story.  His 37-year publishing career saw him rise from sales rep to CEO while working for Wadsworth, Brooks-Cole and Mayfield publishing houses. He also helped many aspiring publishers and entrepreneurs while teaching at the Denver Publishing Institute and counseling at SCORE. He recently joined the Rotary Club of Los Altos to give something back to his community. All the while, his 45-year marriage to Linda remains an inspiration to their children and a source of joy and admiration to their many friends.

Dick graduated from Rockford HS, the University of Michigan and did graduate work at Northwestern in English literature.

He is survived by his wife Linda; his two sons, Jason and Matthew (Katja); his two grandchildren Mia and Noah; his sister Barbara Bailie; his brother-in-law Robert Warren (Shannon); and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services have already been held at Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills, CA.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley at 4850 Union Ave, San Jose, CA 95124 or to your favorite charity.
