OBIT JeanWhite 2

Jean Longstreth White died August 9, 2013 in Los Altos, CA. Her kind and generous heart couldn’t sustain her any longer, although it will continue to be an inspiration to family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Waterman of Houston  TX, her son, Richard White of Los Altos, her granddaughters, Sara Waterman Hicks of San Antonio,TX, Lauren White of Seattle, WA, Katherine White of Oakland, CA, and her grandson, David Waterman of Houston, TX. Her loving husband of 59 years, Lester White preceded her in death in 2001.

Alice Jean Longstreth was born on August 31, 1917 in Richmond, IN. Her musical talents were evident at a young age -- she became an accomplished pianist, cellist and vocalist during her high school years. She attended Miami University and went on to nursing school at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. She was working as an RN in San Antonio, TX in 1941 when her brother, Joseph introduced her to a fellow air cadet at Kelly Field, Lester White. They were married in March of 1942, just a few months before he left for European and North African WWII service. After military service they settled in Miami, FL and started a family. They later moved to rural, eastern OH in 1954 where she dedicated herself to supporting her husband and raising two young children on a working farm, sometimes on her own when her husband was traveling on business. Jean also returned to nursing part-time at the local county nursing home when her children were older.

Upon retirement, they moved back to the place she really loved, Florida. There she enjoyed playing tennis, swimming and social bridge games with her many friends. In 2007, when her health required it, she relocated to Los Altos to be near family. Her ashes will be buried with her husband and parents in Richmond, IN in a private ceremony at a later date.

Her children feel so blessed to have had such strong and loving parents. Now Mom can rest in the loving arms of God with the spirits of all those who loved her. Her family would like to express their sincerest gratitude for the professional and compassionate care received by Jean from Bridgepoint of Los Altos, Vitas Hospice and the Morningstar caregivers in the final phase of her life.
