OBIT ElizabethKeegan

Keegan, Elizabeth “Betty” Louise: Born December 9, 1924 in San Francisco to Rose Marie and John Edward McInerney, Betty died peacefully on August 7, 2013 in Saratoga.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Richard “Dick” W. Keegan. A long time Los Altos resident, Betty and Dick moved to the Peninsula in 1953 from their beloved San Francisco, to raise their children in the sunshine.

Betty attended Jefferson Grammar School and Lowell High School in San Francisco. She was both a “hand” model and clothes model, and also worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as a bookkeeper. She met Dick Keegan at a church social of the Basilican Club at St. Anne of the Sunset Catholic Church, where they were later married in May 1949.

She is survived by her three loving children, Bill Keegan (Cathy) of Orangevale, CA, Janet Black (Larry) of Lafayette, CA, and Lynda Duffy (Dean) of Los Gatos, CA, and seven adoring grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her devoted brother Jack McInerney, his wife Dolores, also previously of San Francisco, and their six children.

Betty loved her Irish heritage, her faith, butterflies, knitting and sewing, dogs, hamburgers, Sees candy with nuts and chews, and bourbon on the rocks. She and Dick maintained lifelong friendships with many of their friends from San Francisco and enjoyed dancing, playing bridge, and traveling together.

A vigil/rosary was held at the Los Altos Chapel of Spangler Mortuaries on Tuesday evening, August 13th. The following morning, a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Nicholas Catholic Church also in Los Altos where Dick and Betty worshipped for many years. Graveside services were conducted at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank all those who attended the services and have offered their condolences. Betty’s kind and gentle spirit will long be remembered by those she came in contact with. She is now in God’s loving care where we know “all is well”.
