Pauline DeKiep Eagleston passed away peacefully in her home in Los Altos on July 12, 2012; she was 98 years old. Pauline led a vibrant and active life up until recent months, and even had a driver’s license good until she was 104.
Pauline was born in Grand Haven, Michigan where she was raised along with 4 siblings. At the age of 17, she went to Chicago to study nursing and graduated from Augustana Nursing School in 1937. While applying her new skills as a surgical nurse at Augustana Hospital, she met her future surgeon husband, Frederick Eagleston. The newlyweds followed her husband’s Navy career for 14 years including active duty during World War II. The Eaglestons then moved to Detroit, Michigan where their sons Richard and Donald were born. Moving west, they came to San Jose in 1952 where Fred set up his surgical practice and Pauline raised her children, soon to include their daughter Jennifer.
Pauline was an active mother and participant in her children’s lives and the communities of San Jose, Saratoga, Santa Clara and Los Altos. She was president of the Saratoga Elementary PTA, an active swim club mother with the
Santa Clara Swim Club, and eventually went back to her nursing career in 1968. She was Director of Nursing at SunnyView Manor in Cupertino until her retirement at the age of 70. For the next 28 years she devotedly shared in the raising of her 5 grandchildren.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Frederick who passed in 1975. She is survived by her children Richard (Barbara) Eagleston, Donald Eagleston, and Jennifer (Gary) Cauble. She leaves behind a legacy of love for her grandchildren Alisa (John) Cieslewicz, Ashley Cauble, Scott Cauble, Laura Eagleston and Nick Eagleston.
