Local teen seeks sponsors in pursuit of pageant title

Angelique Mszanowski of Los Altos is preparing to compete in her first pageant.

Angelique Mszanowski of Los Altos is slated to compete in the 2014 Miss Jr. Teen San Jose/Oakland pageant competition Nov. 23.

Angelique, 13, submitted an application to compete in the pageant and participated in an interview session conducted by the pageant coordinator. Pageant organizers selected Angelique for this year’s competition following her interview.

Brothers receive Eagle honors

Two sets of brothers in Los Altos Boy Scout Troop 30 earned their Eagle Scout ranks during a recent Court of Honor Ceremony held at Christ Episcopal Church.

For his Eagle project, Matthew Gounod, a sophomore at Foothill College, constructed a storage shed for the American Legion Hall in Los Altos.

Local resident launches startup

Ashley Duval is off to a promising start with her new botanical startup.

The 2002 Los Altos High School graduate co-founded Shoots and Roots Bitters two years ago with three colleagues. The company recently released its first line of small-batch bitters through its website, shootsandrootsbitters.com.

Girl Scouts earn Bronze Award

Members of Montclaire Elementary School’s Girl Scout Troop 60232 worked on a project over the summer to earn the Girl Scout Bronze Award, the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can receive.

The girls raised more than $250 in cash donations for Palo Alto Animal Services. They also contributed 30 blankets, 20 pounds of baked animal treats and dozens of handcrafted toys for cats and dogs at the shelter.

Los Altos Troop 37 recognizes Eagle Scouts

Boy Scout Troop 37 of Los Altos recognized two Scouts who earned the rank of Eagle at a Court of Honor ceremony in August.

For his Eagle project, Ashwin Vaidyanathan, a senior at Los Altos High School, led a team of Scouts in constructing a greenhouse at Egan Junior High School.
