Mercifully in His grip: Exploring our true position in Christ

I recently read a wonderful analogy about our true position in Christ. It was shockingly contrary to the messages impressed upon me in church, but deeply rooted in the Bible. The analogy is that of child and a parent. If you have ever taken a small ...

Los Altos Follies fundraiser returns for 20th year

The 20th annual Los Altos Follies, “Fools, Fibs & Foibles,” is scheduled 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave.

The musical parody of modern life and politics features original lyrics to well-known tunes. Local residents write, produce and direct the show, a fundraiser for Los Altos Stage Company.

“The 20th anniversary of the Follies is a great reminder that political satire doesn’t get old – the names change and the songs change, but the fools keep on coming,” said Follies creator Vicki Reeder, producer and director of the show.

Special guest hosts from the community will join master of ceremonies John Sylvester at each performance. Los Altos Mayor Jarrett Fishpaw will share hosting duties with Sylvester Thursday, Los Altos Hills City Councilwoman Courtenay C. Corrigan will appear Friday and Mountain View City Councilman Mike Kasperzak is slated Saturday.

According to Reeder, the Follies will cover an array of topics, including the president, politics, gun control, recent Supreme Court decisions, National Security Agency surveillance, the TV show “Downton Abbey” and Internet addiction.

“This year we are offering humorous takes on the names in the news like Edward Snowden and Paula Deen, as well as politicians like Anthony Weiner – we call him the gift that just keeps on giving,” she said.

Tickets for Thursday’s preview are $60. Tickets for Friday’s opening-night show and Saturday’s gala performance are $100, which includes a reception with food, wine and a silent auction.

For tickets (tax deductible) and more information, call 941-0551 or visit losaltosstage.org.
