TheatreWorks Somewhere closes Sunday in Mtn. View

Tracy Martin/Special to the Town Crier Alejandro (Michael Rosen) dances with his mother, Inez (Priscilla Lopez), in TheatreWorks’ “Somewhere.”

TheatreWorks is set to present “Somewhere” through Sunday at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

The play follows the Candelarias, a talented clan of dancers determined to crash the boards of Broadway, Hollywood and beyond. “Somewhere” is told in dance as well as drama.

Giovanna Sardelli returns to TheatreWorks to helm the regional premiere.

The cast features Tony Award-winning actress Priscilla Lopez as Inez Candelaria, a role she performed in the 2011 world premiere at The Old Globe in San Diego. Lopez’s Broadway credits include “A Chorus Line” (OBIE Award), “A Day in Hollywood, A Night in the Ukraine” (Tony Award for Best Featured Actress), “Nine,” “In the Heights” and “Pippin.” Her film credits include “Tony and Tina’s Wedding,” “Maid in Manhattan” and “Center Stage.”

Michael Rosen plays Alejandro. Rosen was featured as Chino in the 2009 Broadway revival of “West Side Story” and performed with the New York City Ballet in Peter Martin’s “The Sleeping Beauty” and George Balanchine’s “Harlequinade.”

Three other actors make their TheatreWorks debuts as well. Eddie Gutierrez plays Francisco Candelaria, Michelle Cabinian portrays Rebecca Candelaria and Leo Ash Evens reprises the role of Jamie.

The show contains occasional mature language.

Performances are slated 7:30 p.m. today, 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $23-$73.

For advance tickets and more information, call 903-6000 or visit www.mvcpa.com.
