Three local golfers have registered for this week’s 64th California Junior Girls’ State Championship at Monterey Peninsula Country Club.
Kelsey Kawaguchi and Nancy Xu – incoming seniors at Los Altos and St. Francis highs, respectively – and 13-year-old Simar Singh of Los Altos have committed to play in the tournament, scheduled Monday through Thursday in Pebble Beach.
The tourney began with a stroke-play round Monday to determine which golfers advanced to match play on the par-73, 5,972-yard course.
Match-play rounds were scheduled Tuesday and today; the semifinals and finals are set for Thursday, with awards to follow.
The event is for girls ages 13-17; younger players (9-12) participate in the coinciding Starlets tourney.
Singh is the two-time defending Starlets champion. As a 12-year-old last summer, she shot 119 over 27 holes.
