Kevin Lee is out as coach of the Los Altos High girls basketball team after leading the Eagles to one of the best seasons in school history.
Los Altos athletic director Kim Cave confirmed last week that Lee – who guided the Eagles to a league co-championship and the playoff quarterfinals – will not return for a third season. She declined to comment on why Lee was dismissed. The coach would not elaborate, either.
“Unfortunately, I was not able to stay beyond this season, but I was very fortunate that LAHS gave me the opportunity to coach,” Lee said. “We had a lot of fun and the girls learned that it’s more important to have a winning attitude than it is to win games, but it sure is fun to win, too.”
The Eagles posted a 19-7 overall record and shared the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division title with rival Mountain View, which bounced them from the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs last month.
Los Altos went 14-12 in Lee’s first season, advancing as far as the second round of the playoffs.
“I enjoyed my coaching experience at LAHS,” said Lee, previously an assistant coach for the Mountain View boys. “I look forward to coaching again soon.”
Lee’s replacement will be the team’s eighth coach since 2001.
