Michael Thomas of Los Altos recently received the Pacific Masters Championships’ 2013 Swimmer of the Year award in the 18-24 age group.

The award is given to the swimmer who accumulates the most points for top-three finishes during regional and national competitions in short course (25 yards and 25 meters), long course (50 meters) and open water.

Thomas swims for the Los Altos Mountain View Aquatic Club at Foothill College and formerly swam for Mountain View High.

In the past two years, he has consistently ranked in the top 10 nationally in seven events and has finished in the top six in the Coast Conference Championships in eight events while swimming for Foothill.

“Michael is a product of hard work and dedication to the sport,” said Jose Bonpua, head coach of the Los Altos Mountain View Aquatic Club. “He sets the standards a little higher each time he shows up at practice – and it shows in his performances.”

Pacific Masters Swimming covers Northern California and Northwestern Nevada. More than 100 clubs belong to the nonprofit organization.
