Los Altos tennis players ousted in second round of CCS tourney

Los Altos High sent four girls to last week’s Central Coast Section Individual Tennis Championships – Juliette Martin and Carina Burdick in singles and the doubles team of Kacey Incerpi-Whitney Mathews – and all of them survived the first round.

They weren’t so fortunate in the second round, however.

Seventh-seeded Martin – who swept Sobrato’s Emily Ankiel in opening-round play Nov. 25 – lost in straight sets to No. 2 Liz Yao of Menlo in the quarterfinals later that day at Courtside Club in Los Gatos.

Burdick beat No. 5 Aashil Budhiraja of Palo Alto in three sets to begin play and then fell to Anna Romeka of Stevenson in straight sets.

In doubles, fifth-seeded Incerpi-Mathews opened by dispatching St. Francis’ Christine McCarthy-Illina Yang in three sets.

The duo then lost to Carmel’s Megan Scannell-Ursi Eisinger in straight sets.
