Soccer program starts
Take a hike
The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District has scheduled a hike 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 12 at Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve, which borders Los Altos and Cupertino. Led by docents Ed North and Kate Gudmundson, the vigorous 8-mile hike follows the PG&E, Upper High Meadow, High Meadow and Coyote trails. There is no fee to participate or park. Swing for the Oaks
The 10th annual Tony Makjavich Memorial Golf Tournament, a fundraiser for the Palo Alto Oaks semipro baseball team, is scheduled 1:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at Shoreline Golf Links in Mountain View. Los Altos High graduate Steve Espinoza is the team’s general manager. He played for the Oaks under Makjavich, who ran the club for 50 years. Cost is $125; $150 after Sept. 15. Swing for El Camino
