Senior standout

Mountain View resident Ronald Missirian, 62, finished eighth in the race walk at the National Senior Games, which concluded Aug. 1 in Cleveland. Missirian was one of 21 competitors in the event.

Swing for the Oaks

The 10th annual Tony Makjavich Memorial Golf Tournament, a fundraiser for the Palo Alto Oaks semipro baseball team, is scheduled 1:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at Shoreline Golf Links in Mountain View. Los Altos High graduate Steve Espinoza is the team’s general manager. He played for the Oaks under Makjavich, who ran the club for 50 years. Cost is $125; $150 after Sept. 15. Soccer sign-ups

Registration is open for AYSO Region 43’s fall soccer season. The region serves boys and girls in grades K-12 who live in northern Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. AYSO follows six philosophies: everyone plays, player development, positive coaching, good sportsmanship, balanced teams and open registration.
