Juventus Avanza, an under-17 girls soccer squad with three local players, has sizzled this summer.
The Redwood City-based club team last weekend won its third tournament in 35 days.
“The team has done very well recently,” coach Ivan Bandov said.
Bandov also coaches the Mountain View High girls team, which features two of his Juventus Avanza players – forwards Morgan Matthews and Morgan DeAngelis. Defender Annie Gaffney of Los Altos High is the other local member of the club team.
Bandov said the trio “did well” at last weekend’s Magic Cup in Morgan Hill, where Juventus Avanza beat West Coast Katz of Livermore 2-1 in overtime on a golden goal.
Matthews scored four times in the tournament, including what Bandov called “a great goal” that tied Sunday’s final in the 37th minute.
DeAngelis scored one goal over the weekend, while Gaffney “played nearly every minute,” Bandov said.
Juventus Avanza improved to 45-6-10 in the last year. The reigning NorCal State Cup champions are ranked No. 1 in Northern California, sixth in the region and 26th nationally.
Prior to winning the Magic Cup, Juventus Avanza captured the Pleasanton Rage College Showcase and the Juventus Tournament of Champions.
The team is slated to begin its fall season Sept. 7 in the National Premier League’s first division.
