A Weekly Meditation Practice group meets 7-8:15 a.m. Tuesdays at Foothills Congregational Church, 461 Orange Ave., Los Altos.

Each session will include the context and instruction in a meditation practice for that week, ample time for practice and opportunities to share with and learn from group participants as they integrate the practice in their daily lives.

LAUMC offers reflective advent service

Los Altos United Methodist Church has scheduled a reflective advent service, “The Longest Night: A Service of Solace,” 7:30 p.m. Monday in the sanctuary, 655 Magdalena Ave.

The service is aimed at those who may not be feeling the holiday spirit. Organizers invite participants to attend and find a space of peace, reflection and comfort in this busy and sometimes difficult season.

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints adds new Los Altos ward

Members of the local California Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Nov. 16 approved the installation of an additional ward within stake boundaries. The Los Altos Stake encompasses much of Los Altos, Mountain View, Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, nearly 4,000 members of the Mormon faith.

Philip J. Carmack, president of the Los Altos Stake, outlined the new boundaries to a capacity crowd at the church’s meetinghouse on Grant Road, with a simultaneous webcast informing an audience in Santa Clara. The estimated 1,200 members in attendance unanimously sustained the changes.
