BCS schedules parent info nights

Bullis Charter School has scheduled parent information nights for its K-5 and middle school programs.

The K-5 program information night is slated 7 p.m. Jan. 14 in the Bullis Charter School Multipurpose Room, 102 W. Portola Ave., Los Altos. The middle school program night is scheduled 7 p.m. Jan. 22 in the Multipurpose Room.

Green Ivy hosts holiday book drive

Green Ivy Educational Consulting is holding their annual book drive.

The company collects books to benefit the Children’s Book Project, a Bay Area nonprofit that distributes books to homeless shelters.

Egan and Blach host Holiday Faires

Blach Intermediate and Egan Junior High schools have scheduled their annual Holiday Faires.

Blach’s faire is slated 12:30-4 p.m. Friday at the school, 1120 Covington Road, Los Altos. Egan’s Holiday Faire is set for 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at the school, 100 W. Portola Ave., Los Altos.

Foundations seek funds on Giving Tuesday

Local educational foundations are recognizing Giving Tuesday – a national campaign scheduled Tuesday – as an opportunity to raise funds for school programs.

Giving Tuesday is a movement that provides incentives to give in the wake of Black Friday and holiday consumerism. The campaign aims to inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities and give back to charities and causes they support.

LAHS Marching Band schedules performance

The Los Altos High School Eagle Marching Band and Color Guard are scheduled to perform their 2014 competition show, “House of Cards,” at their annual Fall Finale 11:30 a.m. Saturday on the Los Altos High football field, 201 Almond Ave.

The Los Altos High Music Department joined a regional group to commission “House of Cards,” an original work written by composers and drill designers John Mapes and Ian Grom. The seven-minute show opens with a magic trick and moves on to depict different moods through marching and music using the metaphor of a deck of cards. The music features flute solos and percussion rhythms. Large props and colorful flags add visual interest.
