Egan hosts Holiday Faire

Egan Junior High School has scheduled its annual Holiday Faire 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the school, 100 W. Portola Avenue, Los Altos.

More than 300 students will host 170 booths with original handcrafted items, including hats, scarves, jewelry, homemade treats, ornaments, candies and wallets.

Blach holds annual Holiday Faire

Blach Intermediate School has scheduled its annual Holiday Faire 1-4 p.m. Dec. 4 at the school, 1120 Covington Road, Los Altos.

The event will feature holiday gifts and handcrafted items made by Blach students. The Holiday Faire will include more than 90 booths with students selling holiday decorations, jewelry, candy, food items, candles, toys, scarves and more.

LAHS band performs for community

The Los Altos High School Eagle Marching Band and Color Guard is scheduled to perform its 2015 competition show for the community at its annual Fall Finale 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the school’s football stadium, 201 Almond Ave.

The seven-minute show, “The Muse,” is a jointly commissioned original work by composers and drill designers John Mapes and Ian Grom. The Celtic-themed performance features traditional Celtic melodies and images, with a modern twist. The show includes pennywhistle and flute solos and sampled bagpipe and vocal melodies. Elaborate props and visual elements complement the ethereal and mystical sounds from the ensemble.

Mentor Tutor Connection seeks volunteers

Mentor Tutor Connection, a nonprofit organization that has provided mentors and tutors for local students for 18 years, has scheduled a volunteer open house and luncheon noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District offices, 1299 Bryant Ave., adjacent to Mountain View High School.

The organization seeks mentors for high school students and tutors for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Living Classroom seeks volunteers

The Living Classroom Program seeks volunteers who enjoy working with students and appreciate nature.

Volunteer docents lead interactive, hands-on lessons to teach students the interconnectedness of the world. The program reaches all grade levels in the Los Altos School District and includes education in science, math and social studies. The program also serves schools in the Mountain View Whisman and Palo Alto Unified school districts.
