The Loyola School K-Kids Club, a group of second- through sixth-graders sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Los Altos, has set a goal to collect 1,200 pairs of eyeglasses by the end of May.
The donated eyeglasses are cleaned, repaired and their prescriptions identified by Direct Relief International in Santa Barbara. They are then distributed to those who can’t afford glasses in the U.S. and around the world.
Over the past six years, the club has collected approximately 1,000 pairs each year.
Collection boxes are located in Los Altos at Loyola School, 770 Berry Ave.; the Town Crier, 138 Main St.; Heritage Bank of Commerce, 419 S. San Antonio Road, Eyes Optometry, 215 Main St.; and Main Street Bagels, Altos Optometry and Starbucks in Rancho Shopping Center. In Mountain View, boxes are located at Starbucks and Subway in Blossom Valley Shopping Center and at the El Camino YMCA.
