The Los Altos School District’s Living Classroom Program seeks volunteers who enjoy working with students and appreciate the outdoors.
Volunteer docents lead interactive, hands-on lessons to teach students the interconnectedness of nature. The program reaches all grade levels in the district, and lesson content includes science, math and social studies. The program recently expanded to schools in the Mountain View-Whisman School District.
Training and materials are provided. No teaching experience is required. A docent and often an assistant docent along with one or two volunteer parents direct lessons inside and outside the classroom.
A Los Altos district training is scheduled 9-11:30 a.m. Jan. 27 in the Los Altos School District boardroom, 201 Covington Road.
