Children's singer gives Loyola kids a taste of the stage

Children from Loyola Elementary School in Los Altos were treated recently to a visit from internationally known singer Charlotte Diamond. In town to give four children's concerts Feb. 8 and 9, Diamond spent an hour with the four third grade classes at Loyola to teach a song from her newest album, "Diamonds and Daydreams."

Snugly seated in one classroom, 75 third graders were enraptured by Diamond's lively and engaging presence. She taught them the music and hand signs to the song, "Roots and Wings," a song about growing up. She stayed for an hour fulfilling request after request of Diamond favorites in an enthusiastic sing-along.

She had several Loyola children from the third grade join her on stage at each of her concerts, sponsored by Music for Minors, at the Spangenberg Theatre.

Diamond will return again to Los Altos next fall to give a Music for Minors-sponsored workshop for teachers and parents, and again in February 1998 to perform.

The next Music For Minors-sponsored concert will feature children's folk singer Tom Chapin, recently nominated for a Grammy Award for his newest album, "Around the World and Back Again." He is scheduled to perform March 15 at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.
