More than 150 Santa Rita School parents, friends and faculty attended the school's first-ever "Evening in the Garden," a silent auction and party held April 4 at the Shoup Park Garden House in Los Altos.
Bidding was competitive over a number of items, especially the 50,000 airline miles and the opportunity to spend an afternoon with the principal," said Kate Van Zanten, co-chair of the event. Disc jockey Gary S. Dodds served as auctioneer and D.J. for the dancing that followed the auction.
Many parents had donated auction items, including computers, costumes, quilts, gift baskets and coaching services. The Santa Rita teachers joined in by producing a cook book with their favorite recipes. Van Zanten said, "We raised over $6,500 from this event, and we are quite happy with the results. We hope next year to do even better."
Joann Buchanan, who also co-chaired the auction was "thrilled" with the generous response from local vendors including Draegers, Bandara, Chef Chu's, I Fratelli, the Fish Market, Safeway, and the Epicurean Deli, Virtual Vineyards, and Diddams, who donated decorations, food, and beverages for the party.
Principal Steve Peck, who recently joined the Santa Rita staff, was pleased with the enthusiasm and support our parents and community have shown for our school. "I hope we can reciprocate by continuing to provide excellent educational services," he said.
