The Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF) announced its 2008-2009 directors last month. The voting directors selected from the parent community represent all schools within the Los Altos School District.
The board's charter is to promote fundraising programs, community outreach and awareness in support of overall LAEF goals. Board members for the 2008-2009 school year include: Bin Hu, Jay Gill and Jean Limbach, Almond; Kristine Bardman, Mark Hartney and Sue Weber, Blach; Julie Arnheim and Nick Gross, Gardner Bullis; Mark Boennighausen, Katie Gray and Katie Roper, Covington; Teresa Kersten, Kim Gavenman and Cindy Walden, Egan; Glenn Goldberg, Debby Haslem, So Yong Park and Anna Weldon, Loyola; Laurel Iverson, Jim Martin and Joe Seither, Oak; Andy Cohen and Alan Cyron, Santa Rita; and Leslie Bosset, Trinka Dyer and Michael Milliken, Springer.
The board set a campaign goal of $1.92 million. Allocations of the grant enable the district to fund teachers and aides to maintain smaller class sizes and enrichment programs such as technology, science, art, music and physical education for children in grades K-8. LAEF funding also helps to supply the classrooms with 21st-century technology, essential in keeping the students competitive in the global marketplace.
This year LAEF is stepping in to support the gap left from major cuts to education by the state of California.
"We are delighted to welcome new and returning board members to LAEF for the 2008-2009 school year," Executive Director Shobana Gubbi said. "Each year these diverse and talented parents help us reach out to the entire Los Altos parent community. Without the ongoing volunteer support of the parent community within the Los Altos School District, the rich educational experience our children receive would not be possible."
