The Los Altos School District’s Living Classroom Program seeks volunteers who enjoy working with students and appreciate the outdoors.
Volunteer docents lead interactive, hands-on lessons to teach students the interconnectedness of nature. The program reaches all grade levels in the district, and lesson content includes science, math and social studies. The program recently expanded to schools in the Mountain View-Whisman School District.
A docent and often an assistant docent along with one or two volunteer parents direct lessons inside and outside the classroom. Training and materials are provided. No teaching experience is required.
Training sessions for both districts are scheduled 9-11:30 a.m. March 10 and 17 in the Mountain View Whisman School District boardroom, 750-A San Pierre Way. Los Altos district-only trainings are scheduled 9-11:30 a.m. March 24 and 31 in Los Altos School District boardroom No. 2, 201 Covington Road.
