LASD seeks community input on program

Los Altos School District officials have scheduled a series of meetings to seek input from parents about the district’s educational program.

Over the past three years, the district has engaged in a strategic planning process comprising more than 50 participants, including board members, principals and teachers.

“We have identified a need to cast a wider net and allow more voices in the project,” wrote Alyssa Gallagher, district director of strategic initiatives and community partnerships, in an email to the Town Crier.

To meet that need, the district hosted its first community input meeting last week and has scheduled two future meetings.

“These meetings are designed to be interactive experiences where staff and parents will have the opportunity to engage in conversations and provide input around what it means to revolutionize learning for all students,” Gallagher said.

During the meetings, district officials will ask parents:

• What are your learning hopes for your child/student?

• A Los Altos School District graduate will be able to … (portrait of a graduate).

• What changes do you think need to be made to revolutionize learning for all students?

• What if schools were places where students could … . Then we would need teachers/parents/leaders who … .

“All the information gathered will feed into the same process and help us better define next steps,” Gallagher said.

The meetings are scheduled 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Egan Junior High School library, 100 W. Portola Ave.; and 9 a.m. Dec. 13 in the Loyola School Multipurpose Room, 770 Berry Ave.
