Memorial for FHDAs founding trustee set for Friday

A public celebration of the life of Dr. Robert C. Smithwick – founding trustee of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District – is scheduled 2 p.m. Friday in the theater named for him. The memorial is set for Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College, 12345 S. El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills.

Dr. Smithwick died March 22 at age 92. The Los Altos Hills resident served on the district’s publicly elected board for nearly 35 years. He also served several terms on the board of the Fremont Union High School District while living in Sunnyvale, where he practiced pediatric dentistry.

After living in Los Altos for several years, Dr. Smithwick and his family moved to Los Altos Hills in the mid-1960s, into a home overlooking Foothill College.

 Dr. Smithwick is survived by his children, Cathye and Mike. Aileen, his wife of 60 years, preceded him in death in 2003.
