In a 3-2 vote Jan. 14, the Los Altos Hills City Council selected Torie Dye of Victoria Dye Equestrian to become the new concessionaire for riding programs and barn management at Westwind Community Barn.
Dye currently works as the Director of School Horse Operations at Fremont Hills Country Club in Los Altos Hills. During her interview at Tuesday's council meeting, Dye emphasized her commitment to engaging new participants in riding programs at the barn, particularly among young equestrians.
"I have a lot of support and have commitment from a large number of my clients to follow me to Westwind," Dye said.
By leveraging pony club participation to grow boarding operations at Westwind, Dye said that her goal was to bring the barn to a point of good financial management by the end of year one.
During the first year under the new three-year concessionaire contract, the town plans to allocate approximately $72,000 for operating subsidies, $10,000 for a one-time mobilization fee and a monthly boarding subsidy not to exceed $36,000 annually. Council also approved a contract for $115,000 for the renovation and repairs to the facility's lower arena at the January council meeting. The town anticipates reducing subsidies over time.
