Los Altos Police are asking residents to keep their household pets – particularly cats – indoors due to several reports of coyote sightings.
Los Altos Police Sgt. Cameron Shearer told the Town Crier Wednesday (May 29) that the department has received multiple reports of residents spotting a coyote near Alicia Way, as well as in the city’s highlands area, near Interstate 280 and Foothill Expressway.
The coyote (or coyotes) is suspected of preying on domesticated cats in Los Altos, according to Shearer.
He added that the coyote doesn’t pose an immediate threat to humans, “but like all wildlife, it should be respected.”
Anyone spotting a coyote is encouraged to call animal services at 496-5971.
