At exactly 4 p.m. Friday (Oct. 12) – after a countdown by local youth in line to get in – Area 151 opened its doors for business.
Children and their parents rushed through the bright blue doors of the arcade at 151 First St., scurrying to purchase tokens and test out the more than 35 games inside.
Business owner Mary Heffernan said she was inspired to open Area 151 to provide "team-play" games for youth in town. Area 151 features several classic redemption games that encourage participants to play together.
In addition to the arcade, Heffernan said she plans to launch a homework club with tutors and a reward system that provides children play time at the end of tutoring sessions.
