A Los Altos institution is changing hands this fall. Los Altos Pharmacy owner Bart Nelson announced last week that Safeway was buying his 78-year-old business, effective Dec. 13.
He reported that current management and staff expect to stay on and the pharmacy will remain open at 255 Second St.
"The goal is to take compounding to the next level and we are excited to be working with Safeway on this project," Nelson said in his announcement.
Los Altos Pharmacy specializes in compounding custom-made medicines with specific doses, flavors or delivery methods for individual customers.
Safeway, one of the largest food and drug retailers in the U.S., will maintain prescription files, telephone lines and computer information at the pharmacy, according to Nelson.
