LEOLA (LEE) BURNETTE SCHINK

Leola (Lee) Burnette Schink passed away in her sleep on the morning of Saturday, May 14th, 2011 in her hometown of Los Altos, California. She was born May 7, 1930 in Carmel, California and was raised in Los Altos and graduated from Castelleja High School. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri where she studied art. On September 14th, 1951 she married David R. Schink and began an odyssey of homemaking that spanned the country from Philadelphia to La Jolla, Saunderstown Rhode Island, Palo Alto, and more than two decades in College Station, Texas before returning home to Los Altos in 1998. During those many years she was active in public radio, supporting their annual auction, and producing her feature show The Best of Broadway and Hollywood. She participated actively in The League of Women’s Voters, Brazos Beautiful and the Prenatal Clinic of College Station.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years David Schink and her children: Jonathan Schink (Gretchen Bering), Julian Schink (Sharon), Roger Schink (Dorene), son-in-law George Cox; her grandchildren: Maureen O’Neill (D’Arcy), David Cox, Matthew Schink, Megan Grossbart (Jordan), Julianne Cox, Christopher Schink, Amanda Cox, Peter Schink, Elizabeth Schink, and Addison Schink; her great grandchildren: Lilly O’Neill and Charlotte O’Neill. She is predeceased by her daughter Alison Cox, and siblings Julian G. Burnette, Helen Weiss, and Alec Burnette.

Lee’s love of life, public service, nature, her standard poodle and labradoodle will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In the words of Helen Keller: “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” A memorial service is planned for noon on Friday, July 1st 2011 under the great oak tree in her garden at 751 College Ct. Los Altos, CA.
