Friends of the Los Altos Libraries marked the 50th anniversary of its first book sale this year. The non-profit group has donated more than $2 million to the libraries since its inception.
Funds donated by Friends of the Los Altos Libraries have allowed the purchase of furniture and equipment for the libraries, including bookcases and the computerized circulation system for the Woodland Branch, automated equipment and the electronic bulletin board for the main library and furniture for both locations.
Annual book sales offer an average of 30,000 books, hardcover and paperback, as well as a variety of audiovisual materials, games and puzzles to the public at reduced prices. Virtually all the books that remain at the end of the sales are donated to other charities.
Friends of the Los Altos Libraries also operates the cafe in the main library lobby, the ongoing sale of books in the main and Woodland Branch libraries and an active online sale of books.
To donate books, deposit them in the Donations Room in the main library lobby. Receipts are available at the checkout desk.
