Los Altos man dies in Highway 9 crash

Los Altos resident David Miller, 34, was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 9 at 3:25 p.m. Saturday, according to a Santa Clara County medical examiner's office representative.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department is investigating the crash but had released no details as of press deadline Monday.

City reschedules civic center meeting

The next community forum for the Los Altos civic/community center master plan has been rescheduled Jan. 31 as city staff work to scale back project options. Officials canceled a previously scheduled Nov. 15 forum.

In January, consultant Anderson Brulé Architects is slated to present three site alternatives based on resident input gathered over the past year.

Staff also have been working with a citizen's advisory committee to generate ideas for renovating the 18-acre site, currently housing city hall, the police station, the library, the senior center and soccer fields.

Earlier this fall the consultant established a range of possible facilities sizes based on resident feedback.

"It included everything anybody could desire in a high-quality community center," said Assistant City Manager James Walgren, the center's project manager.

However, he added, "The facilities were just getting too large, and the numbers to finance the project were going to be unachievable."

Walgren said plans have been adjusted and the project timeline extended.

"We have a revised schedule on the (civic center) Web site," he said. "We're back on track now."
