Police arrested three Los Altos Pharmacy employees Jan. 3 for allegedly processing fraudulent credit card returns in excess of $20,000 over several months.
Five days after receiving a tip from another employee of the pharmacy at 255 Second St., police arrested Cecilia Lugo of Mountain View, 29, and San Jose residents Blanca Marquez, 28, and Mary Alvarado, 20, according to Capt. Andy Galea.
“They were somehow doing returns on their own credit cards, but no item was purchased,” he said.
The suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail and have since posted bail of $10,000 each. They were charged with felony counts of burglary, grand theft and conspiracy, according to police.
Galea said the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office plans to review the case and determine whether to press charges.
Galea could not specify Tuesday how long the employees had been allegedly defrauding the pharmacy or offer further details on the scheme. He said Wednesday morning that the pharmacy was still adding up fraudulent charges, which total significantly more than the initial $20,000.
A Los Altos Pharmacy employee declined to comment on the matter when reached by phone Tuesday.
