All eight candidates for Los Altos City Council are scheduled to appear on a "Candidates Live On TV" forum, 7-8:30 p.m., Sept. 30, on Access Los Altos Cable Channel 26.
Candidates Ron Packard, Val Carpenter, David Casas, Christopher Friendly Nicholson, Curtis Cole, Steven Smiley, Jeannice Samani and incumbent Francis La Poll are vying for three open seats on the five-member council in the Nov. 4 election.
The forum will be divided into three 30-minute segments: first, an opportunity for candidates to introduce themselves and offer their position on issues; second, a "mock council meeting," during which the candidates act as a collective council resolving simulated issues offered by an "acting" city staff; and third, a question-and-answer period during which candidates can respond to phone calls or e-mails from the public.
KMVT television studios in Mountain View will produce the event, co-sponsored by the Los Altos Neighborhood Network and the Town Crier.
Doug Broomfield, KMVT executive director, said residents can call in questions in advance by dialing 968-1542, ext. 950, faxing 968-1543 or e-mailing: Residents can also call in during the question-and-answer period to 968-1540.
Broomfield said the broadcast would be repeated several times, most likely weekday mornings or Sundays.
