Measure A, the Santa Clara County Library District's parcel tax renewal, passed by an 81.4 percent margin in Tuesday's special election. With all 267 precincts reporting, voters approved the mail-in ballot measure 44,780 to 10,242 against (18.6 percent). The measure needed a two-thirds majority to pass.
The Los Altos main library and Woodland library are among the county district libraries benefiting from Measure A's passage.
The parcel tax, a renewal of the current tax expiring in 2015, will charge single-family homeowners $33.66 per year for another 20 years. The total $6.2 million tax pays for longer library hours and a range of services, from children's services to updating books collections.
