MADD recognizes Los Altos officers
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) recently recognized two Los Altos Police officers among a host of law enforcement officials.
The organization honored Los Altos Police Agent Eric Brooks and Officer Jessica Vernon at its 17th California Statewide Law Enforcement & Community Recognition Dinner, held May 31 in Sacramento, for their efforts in combatting drunk driving. MADD is a national nonprofit organization with 2 million members and supporters with a mission to stop drunken driving, prevent underage drinking and assist the victims of drunken-driving crimes.
According to Los Altos Police Capt. Andy Galea, MADD recognized both officers for tallying the highest number of impaired driving arrests within the department in 2013.
June 9, 9:01 p.m., 1400 block of Richardson Avenue: A resident contacted police to report that someone slashed the tires on his car. The victim told police that he believed the culprit was his girlfriend’s former boyfriend.
June 10, 1:23 p.m., 100 block of State Street: A female victim contacted police to report that someone stole her purse while she was eating at a local establishment.
June 10, 2:09 p.m., 400 block of La Prenda Road: A resident called police to report that someone stole her identity after she received a collection notice for a credit account she didn’t open.
June 10, 3:34 p.m., 1300 block of Harwalt Drive: A resident reported that someone used his or her daughter’s Social Security information to fraudulently file taxes with the Internal Revenue Service.

June 10, 5:31 p.m., Fremont and Fallen Leaf avenues: A driver contacted police after a female motorist in a four-door tan sedan struck the victim’s car and fled the scene of the accident.
June 10, 8:55 p.m., 1000 block of North San Antonio Road: An unknown suspect stole a backpack and two laptops by smashing the window of a vehicle parked near Armadillo Willy’s and Chef Chu’s.
June 11, 10:52 p.m., Almond Avenue and San Antonio Road: Police arrested a 42-year-old female motorist for driving under the influence of alcohol. She was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
June 12, 3:23 p.m., 0-100 block of Main Street: A downtown store employee contacted police to report that a male suspect entered the store upon its opening and stole $80 from the cash register. The employee was busy working on the shop floor when the theft occurred, according to police.
June 13, 8:54 a.m., 500 block of Panchita Way: An unknown suspect stole a table saw overnight from a home construction site.
June 13, 8:57 a.m., 200 block of Mt. Hamilton Avenue: An unknown suspect entered the garage area of an unoccupied home under construction and stole construction tools. The suspect then entered the home and stole a television.
June 15, 10:07 a.m., 2000 block of Fallen Leaf Lane: A homeowner called police after he found someone stealing tools from an area near the front of his home, which was under construction. Police described the suspect as a heavy-set male in his 30s with a beard and shaggy hair. The suspect fled the scene in a two-tone green-over-gray 1990s Dodge Dakota pickup truck. He was last seen driving eastbound on Homestead Road.
Solo injury accident
June 14, 5:04 p.m., Foothill Expressway and Magdalena Avenue: A cyclist was taken to Stanford Hospital with facial injuries after a solo crash on Foothill Expressway.
