A Mountain View student found unresponsive on Steven's Creek Trail yesterday (March 11) is being treated for a possible drug overdose.
Police suspect the student may have overdosed on DOC (2,5-Dimethoxy-ChloroAmphetamine), a relatively new street drug similar to LSD that combines amphetamine and hallucinogenic chemicals. Mountain View Police Sgt. Saul Jaeger described DOC as extremely dangerous with long-lasting effects and noted that it is still viewed as an uncommon drug.
According to Jaeger, the student was discovered between the the Central Avenue and Central Expressway portion of the trail during the school day, but Jaeger didn't identify which school the student attends. He said that police are working with the Santa Clara County Public Health and Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District officials to examine whether other similar incidents have occurred in the area.
In a letter to parents and students, district superintendent Barry Groves and Mountain View Police Chief Scott Vermeer said the district was planning an educational forum for parents to learn about "threats we are seeing to our students as well as learn about the resources available."
