Updated: Los Altos Police Department detectives report that the incident of child annoyance lodged with the department was fabricated. More as the story develops.
Information from the original post below.
Los Altos police are looking for a male motorist who allegedly attempted to lure a child into his vehicle Friday (Feb. 28).
According to police, a 13-year-old boy was walking southbound on Springer Road near Rosita Way at approximately 10:20 a.m. when a white van pulled up next to him. Police believe the suspect attempted to strike up a conversation with the boy in an attempt to lure him into his van.
The attempt proved unsuccessful, police noted, as the child walked away from the van. The suspect followed him a short distance on Rosita before finally leaving the area. The van was last seen on Parma Way, heading toward Arboleda Way.
Police described the suspect as a bald African-American male with a goatee, 30 to 40 years old, wearing a red O’Neill brand ski jacket. Police noted that his vehicle is an older white full-size panel van with no side windows. It featured two rear windows – with the right window broken – square tail lights, a silver roof rack and a dull steel rear bumper. It did not have a rear license plate.
Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call the Los Altos Police Department at 947-2770.
