Mountain View celebrates Oktoberfest this weekend

Steins Beer Garden & Restaurant in partnership with Tied House, the South Bay’s original microbrewery, and the Chamber of Commerce Mountain View will host Oktoberfest 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the open-air parking lot at Bryant & Dana streets, 1 block West of Castro Street.

Steins will replace its selection of 31 beers on tap with authentic German beers in the spirit of Oktoberfest. It will also serve nonalcoholic beer from Erdinger so everyone can join in on the fun.

Tied House will pour its Oktoberfest specials plus a variety of German brews.

Teske’s Germania and a number of other vendors, including Esther’s German Bakery and The Butcher’s Daughter will feature traditional German dishes.

Live German music is scheduled both days: 2 p.m. Saturday, Big Lou’s Accordion; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Joe Smiell Band; and 2 p.m. Sunday, The SF German Band and the German International School of Silicon Valley.

Activities for the younger set include a bouncy house, face-painter and pretzel-eating contest.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Can Do MS, a program for those with multiple sclerosis, and Student Outreach Award Resource (SOAR), financial help and scholarship awards for high school and community college students, and the German International School of Silicon Valley.

Steins will accept PayPal payments in their restaurant. Oktoberfest guests can receive $5 off their purchase of a MV Oktoberfest branded stein if they pay with PayPal’s mobile app. There will be multiple payment areas.
