The Peninsula Symphony has scheduled a free outdoor concert, “Up North/Down South,” to usher in the summer season 6:30-8 p.m. June 15 at Hillview Soccer Field, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.

The concert, held in conjunction with the Los Altos Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series and sponsored by the Town Crier, will feature virtuoso violinist Kathleen Chen. Chen, 17, winner of the Peninsula Symphony’s 2013 Young Musician Competition, will perform Jean Sibelius’ Violin Concerto.

The symphony will perform Reinhold Glière’s “Russian Sailor’s Dance,” Arturo Márquez’ “Danzón No. 2,” Manuel de Falla’s “The Three-Cornered Hat, Suite No. 2,” Malcolm Arnold’s “Four Scottish Dances,” Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Tahiti Trot” and Edvard Grieg’s “Norwegian Dances.” Highlights from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Evita” will round out the program.

The Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series is scheduled 6:30-8 p.m. Thursdays at either Hillview Soccer Field or Grant Park, 1575 Holt Ave., Los Altos.
