The Los Altos Library has scheduled travel writer Wayne Bernhardson to discuss “Travels to Chile” 7:30 p.m. April 9 in the Program Room of the main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.
Bernhardson, author of “Moon Handbooks: Chile, Including Easter Island” (Avalon Travel, 2009) and other South American guidebooks, will present a digital slide show and lecture, and answer questions about travel to Chile and South American points of interest.
Stretching from the subtropical Atacama Desert to the tip of Cape Horn, Chile is a mirror image of North America’s Pacific Coast. The capital city of Santiago is a Mediterranean metropolis between the high Andes and the ocean, with wine districts to the north, south and west. The port of Valparaíso is Chile’s counterpart to San Francisco, with hills, funiculars that climb them and an arts scene.
Bernhardson earned a doctorate in geography from UC Berkeley. He spends four to five months every year in southern South America, where he owns an apartment in Buenos Aires.
